About The Program

Nevada Wolfpack Hockey is a student-run organization competing at the ACHA Division III level. We play a full schedule against programs across the West and represent the University of Nevada, Reno on and off the ice.

Our players are students first. We recruit skaters who are serious about the game and serious about their degree at UNR. You'll practice multiple times per week, travel for weekend series, and represent a program that competes to win.

The team is self-funded through dues, donations, and sponsorships. Players contribute to program costs, which the coaching staff actively works to minimize through fundraising.

FAQ
Do I need a competitive hockey background to try out?
+
No. While most roster players come from high school varsity, junior, or prep backgrounds, we evaluate all skaters at tryouts regardless of prior level. Compete level and coachability matter as much as credentials.
How much does it cost to be on the team?
+
Annual player dues are approximately $1,200–$1,500 depending on the season. This covers ice time, officiating, travel, and equipment costs. A full breakdown is provided to accepted players before any commitment is required.
How many roster spots are available?
+
The active roster is typically 22–26 skaters plus two goaltenders. Open spots vary by year depending on graduating players. In a typical year there are 4–8 open spots across all positions.
What is the weekly time commitment?
+
Practices run three to four times per week, typically early morning or late evening to work around class schedules. Home games are usually Friday and Saturday. Away series involve travel Thursday evening through Sunday. Expect 15–20 hours per week during the season. Finals weeks are respected.
Can transfer or graduate students try out?
+
Yes. Transfer and graduate students are fully eligible under ACHA rules as long as they are enrolled at UNR. Players who previously played NCAA hockey may have eligibility restrictions — contact the coaching staff to discuss your situation before registering.
When are tryout dates?
+
Tryout dates will be announced in August. Registration typically opens in mid-August. Follow @nevadamenshockey on Instagram and check back here for official dates and any updates.
